Lake Junaluska is a mountain community in Haywood County, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lake Junaluska is named after nearby Mount Junaluska, which in turn was named after Chief Junaluska, a Cherokee leader.
The 200-acre man-made lake is surrounded by homes and hotels and the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, owned by the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. Recreation on the lake includes canoes, kayaks, fishing, and swimming. Only electric trolling motors are permitted on the lake to maintain peace and quiet. There is a 3 1/2 mile paved walking trail around the lake, which is perfect for early evening strolls.
